Mayor Wildes Meets With Natan Sharansky
Mayor Wildes and Natan Sharansky met recently at a private breakfast forum in New York City to discuss current affairs in Israel and the challenges facing the region. Sharansky spoke of: Israel's continued existence in a region that wishes to destroy it and the “pressures” Israel faces as it struggles to maintain its identity as a Jewish state while simultaneously striving to progress as a democracy.
Voted and listed under number eleven on the list of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people of 2005, he is best known as the long-time Soviet Refusnik who ultimately was returned to Israel and later became a member of Israel's Parliament. In 1986 Congress granted him the Congressional Gold Medal and in 2006 the Presidential Medal of Freedom
